Humble Beginnings

Craft 4 Change began as a way to combine a love of all things crafts and the desire to make a difference in the lives of those who need help.

Robyne Cortes has always had a creative spark.  Even as a young girl, she was always entering drawing or coloring contests.  She even won a blow up colorful cow from Foremost Dairy because of her entry!  She has crafted many things from sewing pillows and purses, to handmade greeting cards, floral arrangements and Christmas decorations.  Always willing to create things for family and friends, she wanted another way to help others.  Having volunteered for women’s shelters, youth groups, church activities, Girl Scouts and Relay for Life (cancer event), why not combine the two.

While crafting for charity is not a new concept, as there are many groups who focus on one type of craft and one organization.  Robyne wanted something a little different. Surfing the internet one day, she came upon a craft for charity group that looked interesting.  Their concept was more what she was looking for.  They selected a project to make and a charity to donate them to.  People from all over the world participate and several of the charities are global.  After participating in a few of the projects, Robyne decided to do something similar, only on a more local level.  So, the idea for Craft 4 Change was born.

Robyne cannot run Craft 4 Change by herself, as there are several crafters “behind the scenes”.  Some people craft, while others help with the blog, collect projects or spread the word to their crafty friends.  Everyone is appreciated, as are YOU if you choose to participate.

Robyne lives in the Sacramento area with her husband and two cats.  She can be reached at:  craft4change@hotmail.com
